1996

It is with emotion that we recall 1996. Requiring a lot of care and attention, and a great deal of selection in the vines, the climatic cycle was however ideally tempered, with a wonderful after season that favoured the expression of all our varieties, particularly the Cabernet Franc.

The vinification was very much in keeping with our tradition: long fermentation, malolactic fermentation in new oak barrels for two thirds of the varieties, long maturing in barrels, fining with egg whites, bottling without filtration.

For the preparation of the cuvee, only vines of more than 25 years of age were chosen, with a balance of 60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon.

Vieux Château Certan 1996 is a superb wine comparable to the 1988 vintage. The colour is extremely dark: deep garnet, almost black.

The attack is fruity, tannic, spicy and lively.

Very typical of Cabernet Franc, it offers a wide aromatic palette of rare complexity: raspberry, blackberry and liquorice. The taste is both fine and concentrated at the same time.

A fine wine for laying down, Vieux Château Certan 1996.
